Do Not Swim notice in place for north Dublin beach after ‘unacceptable levels of bacteria’ found

A ‘Do Not Swim Notice’ has been put in place for Malahide Beach after ‘unacceptable levels of bacteria’ were found in a recent bathing water sample.

The sample taken on August 3rd flagged the high levels of bacteria.

The cause of these unacceptable levels of bacteria is currently unknown and an investigation is underway.

Fingal County Council have stressed that Malahide Beach has a constant red flag and swimming is never advised there.

The results of a resample taken today will be reviewed in two days’ time.

The beach is still open but users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notices as they have been issued to protect the health of swimmers.

A spokesperson for Fingal County Council said: “Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.”
