'Do not approach' warning as knifepoint robber on the run from jail

A violent crook who took part in a "terrifying" park robbery when a knife was run down a woman's face and neck is on the run from jail.

Today police warned the public to contact them immediately and not to approach 23-year-old Ben Adderson who has links to Warrington.

Adderson, jailed over the park robbery and a separate raid at a Bargain Booze which saw two staff members threatened with a knife, is on the run from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire, after going missing from the facility overnight between Sunday, June 20 and Monday, June 21.

The fugitive was jailed in September 2017 for a total nine years and six months for two robberies.

The first saw Adderson and another man each hold a knife to their victim, a 32-year-old woman in Carlisle's Melbourne Park.

Cumbria Police said during the evening ambush "one of the men ran a knife down the side of her face and neck" before they fled with with her phone and bag.

Police said the woman was uninjured during the "terrifying ordeal" as she made her way to work on March 28, 2017.

Addison was also sentenced for a robbery at Bargain Booze store on Furze Street in Carlise the same month which saw him help himself to £250 after he threatened two staff members with a knife.

Derbyshire Police said the public should get in touch straight away if they spot him.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "A convict has absconded from HMP Sudbury open prison.

"Ben Adderson absconded from the prison overnight between Sunday, June 20 and Monday, June 21.

"The 23-year-old was jailed at Carlisle Crown Court in 2017 for robbery."

Adderson, who has links to Warrington and Middlesbrough as well as Carlisle, is 6ft 4ins tall, of slight build and with brown hair and blue eyes.

He has two tattoos - a cross on his right arm and a cannabis leaf on his left arm.

The Derbyshire Police spokesperson added: "If you have seen Adderson, or know of his whereabouts, please do not approach him, instead contact police immediately quoting reference number Derbyshire police reference 507-210621."
