‘Do it or don’t do it’: Rachel Brosnahan doesn’t have time for people complaining about their superhero roles

Rachel Brosnahan is about to make her superhero debut as Lois Lane in Superman. And she decided it was time to say something about actors who join superhero franchises, take the money, and then complain about the work they’re doing.

During an interview with Amanda Seyfried in Interview Magazine, Brosnahan shared that she doesn’t understand actors who take on a superhero role only to complain the entire time they’re doing it. We’ve seen it happen time and time again and as a fan of both actors and superheroes, it can be disheartening to see an actor take on a character that means a lot to people only to slam it.

“I don’t know why people say yes [to a project] only to then turn around and complain about it,” Brosnahan said. “Look, I don’t want to sh*t on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

The thing is: She’s right! Even if a movie doesn’t end up the way you want it to, part of that comes down to the commitment of its actors. As someone who enjoyed Madame Web fine, if everyone was just slightly more committed to the absurdity of that film, I feel like it would have been received better. But you could tell that people did not want to be there and it showed.

Sometimes when an actor is complaining about a role in a superhero film, it feels like they just wanted the money and that’s fine, whatever, but turning it into some righteous thing after you took home the money doesn’t sit right with me. And it is nice that Brosnahan is also on my side about that one.
