Self-isolation rules for travel to amber list countries are expected to be relaxed for Brits who have had both doses of a coronavirus vaccine.
Ministers are reportedly drawing up plans to allow more people to travel abroad this summer, which could include a loosening of the rules for those who have been vaccinated, according to The Times.
As it stands, everyone arriving into the UK from an amber list country must quarantine for 10 days and pay for tests on day two and day eight - regardless of whether or not they have had the jab.
It means demand has plummeted for trips to many of the most popular destinations, with just eleven countries currently on the green list, including countries with their own restrictions.
The new rule for double-jabbed Brits was announced by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on Thursday, June 24, with further details to be confirmed in July.
It could be welcome news for airlines who have had to operate a reduced timetable since March 2020 following lockdowns around the world.
However, Boris Johnson warned Brits should still expect some disruption to travel plans for the rest of summer.
Mr Johnson said: "I want to stress that this is going to be – whatever happens – a difficult year for travel.
“There will be hassle, there will be delays, I am afraid, because the priority has got to be to keep the country safe and stop the virus coming back in.”
The potential changes come as 31 .4 million people have now been given the second dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with all adults now able to book their jab.
