'Do I look happy?' - Steven Gerrard responds to Newcastle United rumours

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move to Newcastle United following the departure of Steve Bruce this week.

The Newcastle United boss was sacked following the club's £300million takeover by a Saudi-led consortium.

One of the names linked with the vacancy is current Rangers boss and former Red, Gerrard.

After spending time coaching in Liverpool's academy after his retirement, Gerrard took over as Rangers manager in 2018 and won his first Scottish Premiership title last season.

He's been linked with the Newcastle job ever since the takeover was completed two weeks ago.

However, Gerrard has distanced himself from any speculation as he was asked about the rumours following their Europa League victory over Brondby on Thursday night.

“Do I look happy? Do I look settled? Don’t ask me silly questions then," he said to BT Sport post-match.

The former midfielder has responded to rumours once before, as he was asked about the takeover last week.

"I think it’s interesting, what’s happening at Newcastle," Gerrard said.

"I think if anyone deserves a break it’s the Geordie fans.

"But from a personal point of view, I don’t really get involved in speculation."

For Gerrard, there appears to be no desire to move to the Premier League at this moment in time.

Paulo Fonseca is currently the bookies' favourite after he departed Roma at the end of last season.
