DNA on trousers helps catch woman who stole £15 from pocket of vulnerable man

A woman who intimidated and assaulted a "vulnerable" man in order to steal £15 has been locked up.

Katie Pegg pleaded guilty to forcing her hand into the man’s pocket in order to steal the money from his wallet on Sunday, November 24, 2019.

Nottinghamshire Police detectives discovered DNA belonging to the 37-year-old on the victim’s trousers.

Pegg, of Chestnut Avenue in Retford, had known the victim for some time when she asked to use his phone. When she entered his house, she refused to leave and demanded that he hand over the money.

She was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, September 24.

Graduate Investigator Hollie Fothergill, said: “This was an awful offence to commit on a vulnerable victim who would have undoubtedly been terrified by Pegg’s actions.

“Robbery is never acceptable and as a force, Nottinghamshire Police will always investigate reports thoroughly and take appropriate action against those found to be committing such offences.

“If you are a victim of robbery or see something suspicious in your area, please do not hesitate to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or in an emergency, dial 999.”
