DNA evidence could be crucial in capturing person who sent explosive devices to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and others

NEW YORK _ Trace DNA could be crucial in tracking down the assailant who mailed homemade pipe bombs to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, George Soros and others, a former FBI agent told the Daily News on Thursday.

Jeffrey Danik, who worked for the FBI for three decades, said the chances of DNA being found on one of the devices or envelopes is "high."

Danik added that beside "working the list of obvious suspected nuts known to the Secret Service," investigators likely will dump all cell towers covering the spots were the devices were mailed from, "plus the tower covering Soros' compound."

"Cut all the numbers from all towers against all dumped numbers," he said. "The common numbers are highly likely suspects."

The first device discovered was the one delivered Monday to the Westchester home of Soros, the billionaire Democratic donor.

None of the homemade bombs detonated and no one was injured, but authorities have not made any arrests or released any details about a possible motive.

Some of the manila envelopes with pre-printed addresses carried the return address of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Florida office. The packages were all similar to one another in content and appearance.

The bombs were about six inches long and included powder and shards of glass. The devices were sent to an FBI lab in Virginia.

Packages were also sent to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), former Attorney General Eric Holder, Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro. A suspected explosive device was also sent to CNN's studio in Manhattan.
