CHENNAI: Four people including a DMK ward deputy secretary and a rowdy were arrested in the murder of DMK worker Selvam. So far, police have arrested 12 suspects in connection with the February murder.
On Thursday, the Madipakkam police arrested the prime suspect and rowdy Muthu Saravanan of Sholavaram. Based on the confession of the arrested rowdy Muthu Saravanan, police nabbed Kutty alias Uma Maheshwaran, 43, a DMKward deputy secretary of ward 188, DMK fisheries wing unit coordinator Sahaya Densi, 55, Jayamurugan, 42, of Madipakkam, who works as a document writer, and realtor Ravi alias Ramesh, 39, an office-bearer at Puratchi Bharatham.
Inquiries revealed that Jayamurugan was attacked by some people two years ago and he suspected the handiwork of Selvam in the attack. Meanwhile, Uma Maheshwaran expected to promote himself as ward secretary and Sahaya Densi and Ramesh had developed enmity with Selvam over real estate dispute in the locality.
Following this, the four suspects pooled in Rs40 lakh and gave it to Muthu Saravanan and Murugesan to eliminate Selvam.
In connection with the February 1 murder of DMK ward secretary C Selvam near the party office at Madipakkam, so far, 14 people have been arrested.
