DMK chief Stalin announces party reorganisation advisory committee

Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin has constituted a 10-member 'party reorganisation advisory panel' to study feedback received from cadres and others after the election results and to recommend changes in the party structure right from branches to the apex level in order to rebound and win polls.

Stalin, recalling the setting up of a 38-member committee following the Assembly poll debacle, to assess the ground situation by interacting with party workers, said he was perusing the reports submitted to him.

Also, the opinion was solicited online, and it fetched approximately "six lakh opinions".

Those inputs were processed by AI, and a report has been prepared, and he was also looking into it.

In a party statement on Tuesday, the former chief minister said that the collective opinion received advocated the reorganisation of the party in sync with the present times.

Stalin said: "Based on that, I have some views regarding the reorganisation and reconstruction of the party. I believe this is the right time to carry out the necessary restructuring from the branch level to the top party bodies, in order to rejuvenate the party. We must realise that reorganisation and reconstruction are absolutely essential for us to eliminate our past shortcomings and approach the public in a fresh format."

By considering the opinions and suggestions received from the party members so far, a committee is being formed to recommend uniform changes in the structure of the party, he announced.

"This committee will submit its recommendations to me in the first week of August," he said.

The recommendations would cover the re-demarcation to be carried out in the party districts and the restructuring in the party's various wings.

Also, recommendations shall include reorganisation initiatives to be made in various committees, including the one related to polls; a permanent setup for election work, and the need for a body like a 'Think tank' to make recommendations to the leadership.

The reorganisation will be effected by thoroughly discussing such recommendations in the top-level party bodies and with the district secretaries, Stalin said.

Party leaders Thangam Thennarasu, Geetha Jeevan, R Sakkarapani and SS Sivasankar, who are set to lead the panel, are the members.

Party functionaries Tamilarasi Ravikumar, MM Abdullah, I Paranthamen, S Murasoli, M P Ezhilan and SKP Karuna are the other members of the committee.

C Joseph Vijay-led TVK secured an impressive 108 seats, trouncing the incumbent DMK led by M K Stalin, which finished with only 59 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, 2026.
