PATNA: DM Chandrashekhar Singh on Tuesday directed the officials concerned to serve notices to shut down 138 coaching institutes in Patna district after rejecting their applications for registration on several grounds, including lack of adequate infrastructure, under the Bihar Coaching Institute (Control and Regulation) Act, 2010.
The order was issued at a meeting of the district coaching institute registration committee chaired by the DM on Tuesday. District education officer Amit Kumar informed the committee that 609 applications had been received in the past for the registration of coaching institutes, but only 287 were allowed to operate while 111 applications had been rejected, he said.
Of the remaining 211 applications, 153 were considered in the meeting and 126 of them were approved for registration by the committee. The 27 others were found ineligible for registration after scrutiny.
