DK Metcalf ‘way above’ where people expected him to be

The helium surrounding DK Metcalf, the Seattle Seahawks’ second-round pick, has reached peak levels.

Yet somehow, Tyler Lockett thinks even all the hype may not be enough.

“I think he’s way above what people from the outside probably expected him to be,” Lockett said after OTA’s on Tuesday. “The biggest thing that I like is the fact that he’s being himself. He’s playing his game and he’s using these tools and the things that has God-given talent to be able to be successful and get himself open.”

Metcalf first gained notoriety for his elite showing at the NFL combine, boasting a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash – impressive for any wide receiver, especially one who stands six-foot-three and weighs in at 228 pounds.

Metcalf is a freak athlete, but he dropped in the draft because of concerns that his lack of refined route-running in college would limit him in the pros. That has not been the case from what we have seen from him at OTA’s.

“DK came in, he’s learning the X, but we’re moving him all around too, and he has handled that,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer commented on Tuesday. “A lot of talent, a lot of size – the size factor is definitely different than what we’ve been around here. We see him developing, we see him getting better.”

Metcalf has a chance to be Seattle’s No. 2 receiver next season and gives the team a formidable weapon on the outside. Considering Russell Wilson’s proficiency throwing the deep ball, Metcalf could have a huge role in the offense as soon as next season.

“I like him,” Lockett continued. “I like him a lot.”
