DK Metcalf and Pete Carroll had another ‘serious’ talk about penalties

One of the more disappointing aspects from Sunday’s game was wide receiver DK Metcalf being hit with yet another unsportsmanlike penalty. With the Seahawks down 27-13, Metcalf was flagged with a taunting penalty, turning a 2nd-and-2 into 2nd-and-17, which was followed up with two sacks.

It was an inexcusable mistake for a fifth year veteran, and sadly one he has not made corrections on. It’s exactly why he earned himself squarely on the “Dud” list for Sunday. Metcalf has developed a legitimate reputation of being a hot head, and it’s costing the Seahawks dearly now.

Head coach Pete Carroll is certainly taking notice, and had yet another conversation with his star wide receiver about it.

Unfortunately, this is a problem that continues to persist. This is no longer a trait of a fiery rookie, learning the ropes of the big leagues. Now it has become a trait that Metcalf has not mastered yet. His inability to keep his cool in moments like this is now an exploitable weakness defenders around the league have figured out.

Hopefully, Carroll’s latest conversation with Metcalf sinks in. What is most concerning is Metcalf is aware it’s an issue and has been open about it, but it keeps happening. Is it a case where he is unwilling to adjust, or is he incapable? I hope it’s not the latter, and that Metcalf can finally figure it out.

But it needs to happen sooner than later.
