Djed Spence completes Rennes loan transfer as Tottenham prepare to announce Pedro Porro arrival

Tottenham full-back Djed Spence has completed a transfer deadline day loan move to Rennes.

The French team, sat fifth in Ligue 1, have swooped for the 22-year-old after a number of injuries in his position.

Antonio Conte described Spence as a “club signing” when he arrived from Middlesbrough for £12.5million in the summer and he has only accrued five minutes of game time in the Premier League in four substitute appearances.

Spurs are set to announce the signing of Pedro Porro to add to the competition at right-back with Matt Doherty also due to leave north London, in a switch to Atletico Madrid.

Spence joins fellow Tottenham defender Joe Rodon at Rennes, the Welsh centre-back having recently re-established himself in their line-up.

Technical director Florian Maurice told the Rennes website: “Following the injuries to Lorenz Assignon and Hamari Traore, we had to react very quickly.

“He has an interesting player profile. He is a committed, fast player who is able to defend and attack well. He won promotion to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest last season.

“He has played little with Tottenham but he's still a player with great potential. In a few hours, we had to be reactive to find the right option and I hope he will quickly blend into the group in order to show us his qualities.”
