DJ Qualls: Road Trip and Breaking Bad actor praised for coming out as gay at Jim Jefferies comedy show

Actor DJ Qualls has been praised for deciding to come out as gay on stage at a stand-up show of his friend Jim Jefferies.

The Road Trip and Supernatural star, whose other credits include Lost, Breaking Bad and The Man in the High Castle, said he was tired of worrying how his sexuality might affect his career.

He tweeted on Friday (10 January): “It is 11:20pm. I just came out on stage at a @jimjefferies show in San Diego. Yep, I’m gay. Been gay this whole time. Tired of worrying about what people would think of me. Tired of worrying about what it would do to my career.”

Qualls has been friends with Jefferies for some time. In 2013, he appeared in the Australian-born comedian’s series Legit as well as The Jim Jefferies Show in 2018.

A number of fellow actors, including The Man in the High Castle‘s Sebastian Roché, Supernatural star Adam Rose and Castle Rock‘s Melanie Lynskey, all praised Qualls on social media.

“Proud of you, my friend. Love you, man,” Rose wrote. Roché added: ”Well done my friend, very proud of you.”

Qualls’ character in Amazon series The Man in the High Castle, which centres on a world in which Nazi Germany won the Second World War, was gay.

Jeffries’ stand-up show was the first time Qualls has ever spoken publicly about his sexuality.
