The radio DJ Neil Fox has been charged with a series of sex offences spanning more than two decades, including an alleged assault on a girl under 14, Scotland Yard has announced.

The 53-year-old former Magic FM presenter was charged with nine offences involving six victims, three of whom were juveniles at the time, police said on Monday.

Fox faces a charge of indecent assault against two girls under the age of 16 as well as another charge of indecent assault against a girl under 14. The offences are alleged to have happened between 1991 and 1996.

The former Pop Idol judge, who is married with children, also faces six further charges relating to three separate women, which are alleged to have taken place between 2003 and 2014. He is charged with four counts of indecent assault on a woman who was over 16 at the time and two further counts of sexual assault against two other women.

Fox, who was dropped from his Magic FM show after being arrested at the radio station’s central London studios in September last year, had been bailed to March 2015. He was further arrested in December on more charges.

Police said that the arrest and charges do not form part of Operation Yewtree, set up after the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Fox achieved fame in the 1990s on Capital FM, and went on to host the Network Chart Show on Sunday afternoons. He was the Magic FM breakfast presenter from 2005 until his arrest last September.

Fox is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on 16 April.

His lawyer, Anthony Burton, said in a statement: “It is wholly inappropriate at this stage for Mr Fox to make any comment, save that he categorically denies each and every allegation that has been made against him.”
