DJ Khaled 'wants to go pro' after discovering his love for 'beautiful sport'

Rapper and music mogul DJ Khaled has admitted he has developed an "addiction" to golf, insisting he wants to take up the sport as a professional.

The golf bug is certainly infectious and Khaled has an intense case, rarely letting a day pass without getting on the course. And he is not afraid of sharing his swing with followers on social media.

The 47-year-old, who has had UK number-one singles alongside the likes of Justin Bieber and Rihanna, has been named as an ambassador for September's Ryder Cup between Europe and the United States in Rome.

DJ Khaled has fallen in love with the "beautiful sport" and he is trying to inspire the next generation by hosting his own charity tournament in the name of his We The Best Foundation, with NFL stars past and present Michael Vick, Odell Beckham Jr and Shannon Sharpe among those who have committed to the July 20 event in Miami.

DJ Khaled hopes the event inspires children to take up the game of golf as well as raise money for his foundation, which supports organisations that help young people in underprivileged communities.

The rapper – who plays off a handicap of 14 – has grown to love golf so much, he says he wants to go professional and he cannot be accused of being unambitious.

"I want to go pro," he told Fox News. "The reason why I say that is, if for some reason I don’t go pro, I want to be able to play in some real big matches.

"Golf is a beautiful sport. Golf is like life: It’s not easy, but it’s beautiful. Every day, you try to perfect (your game). You’re battling yourself to be greater and greater every day on the course.

"It’s a special addiction because just the way you hit the ball, and you get that sound, you want to keep getting that same love every time you hit the ball. I loved it when I was kid, but now it’s a full-time thing to me. You have to add golfer beside my name now because I am a true golfer now.

"I want to enjoy it, but at the same time bring awareness of golf for the young world, for the kids. I want them to know about this game, this sport and how beautiful it is."

In addition to partnering with the Ryder Cup to promote the tournament, DJ Khaled – whose name is Khaled Mohammed Khaled – has also teamed up with NBA superstar Steph Curry and his Underrated Golf Tour.

The series gives teenage golf talents from a wide range of communities and backgrounds the chance to access mentoring and support as well as playing tournaments on some of the finest courses in America.
