A fraudster posing as George Bowie has been targeting fans and asking for their bank details over social media.
The Clyde 1 DJ alerted his Twitter followers to the scam by posting a picture of the fake account doing the rounds on Instagram.
He claimed that the person behind the “gbxanthems__” account has been messaging fans to say they have won a competition before asking for card information.
The 51-year-old radio presenter urged his fans to report the account in a bid to get it taken down.
Writing on Twitter, he said: “Hey troops, some d****r has set up a fake Instagram account, so please don’t fall for it.
“You haven’t won a competition and I definitely do not want your bank details.
“If you get a message can you report it? Sane thing happened on Facebook last year, it’s never ending.”
It’s not the first time that scammers have posed as the legendary radio DJ - he was the victim of a similar incident in June last year.
George suspected that fraudsters may have cloned his account to send out information about a fake competition.
At the time he said: “We still don’t know what’s happened to my Facebook. It’s either been hacked or cloned, maybe both!
“Either way, please, please, please do not reply to any messages saying you have won a competition, it is not from me.”
