DJ Funk’s favourite tracks

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with

I always open up with a track from Dance Mania Records but it depends on where I’m at. If it’s a club, I might play Booty Clap, if it’s a rave I might play Bounce That Ass, the Crookers remix, and if it’s a hard techno party I might play Pump It. Long story short, I always read the crowd before I blow it up.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

I have a special Chicago hardstyle remix of this that never fails. Everyone always screams and it gets wild; pandemonium crazy!

The track that currently gets the most rewinds
DJ Isaac: Face Down Ass Up

Since the ghetto house BPM is so fast, I can play my songs two or three times if I wanted to. But Face Down Ass Up is always a crowd pleaser.

The track I wish I’d signed to my label

Not a track, but a whole album of DJ Funk and DJ Rashad. I was getting ready to hook up on an album with him two weeks before he passed away. May the brother rest in peace.

The track I think has been unfairly slept on this year
Valentino Khan: Deep Down Low

This track is sick. You can tell this is one of those songs that’s going to be around for a while.

The track that got me out of bed this morning
Paul Hardcastle: Rainforest

It’s just one of those feelgood songs that gets you in a good mood to start the day.

The track I wish I never played

None, really. A song I’d play in Chicago might be a hit there, but in Paris might not work. I think it’s a regional thing. That’s what I’ve learned, that really there are no wrong tracks, just the wrong places to play the right tracks.

The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
DJ Funk: Work It

That’s one of her favourite tracks that I’ve made that’s clean. A golden track for a golden girl!

The ideal festival track
Chocolate Puma & Tommie Sunshine feat DJ Funk: Scrub The Ground

This is a whole new style of dance music; now that’s what’s up.

The track I’d play at my funeral
DJ Funk: Run (UK mix)

If I don’t have an open casket I would like Run, but I really don’t want a funeral. I’d like to have a party so people remember all the good times and aren’t sad. Then at the afterparty there’ll be a lot of booty shaking with all my music played.

DJ Funk plays Corsica Studios, SE17, Friday 18 September
