DJ duo Slam gear up for Glasgow's Riverside Festival this weekend

Legendary DJ duo Slam have shared their excitement to play in front of their hometown crowd ahead of Riverside Festival this Bank Holiday weekend.

Taking place in the grounds of the iconic Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum on the banks of the Clyde tomorrow and Sunday, the rip-roaring music event curated by the pair's Maximum Pressure along with Electric Frog has plenty in store for fans this year.

The "super strong" line-up features big industry names such as Denis Sulta, Bicep, John Hopkins and Jeff Mills – and a series of rare collaborations across both nights.

With Riverside kickstarting Slam's festival season, Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle will also be teaming up with Bournemouth techno master Daniel Avery for a world exclusive back-to-back set together.

Stuart tells Glasgow Live: "We've never done it before! I have to say we're super excited about it. This is the biggest gig we do in Glasgow!"

Along with stages curated by Denis Sulta, nightclub La Cheetah, and label Feel My Bicep, Riverside has unveiled its brand new Dockland area, hosting Barcelona's John Talabot, Mella Dee and Young Marco, along with outstanding homegrown talent including Edinburgh's Athens of the North, Aisha, Glaswegian duo Brain Dancing and Thunder Disco Club.

Orde said: "Every year it gets better and better. We're always tweaking with the sound, the stages, the bars, the whole experience."

It's not just the music, either: Stuart reckons the Clydeside area – the old industrial heartlands of Scotland – make a "fantastic" setting for Riverside.

"It's iconic, right in the heart of Glasgow," he said. "It's an urban festival – you're not traipsing through fields getting your trainers dirty. It's the perfect location."

The weather forecast isn't looking too promising, unfortunately – with rainy spells and wind looking likely for both days according to the Met Office... But there's nae danger Glaswegians will let a bit of drizzle get in the way of a good party. And Slam are banking on it.

Stuart said: "The Glasgow crowd are just the best. They get it.  They have a history with the music, they get the music, they come wanting to have a good time."

"They're very musically open-minded," Orde added.

"They're here for a party. They're here to have fun!"

So – for all of you sitting on the fence, we asked why music lovers should head to Riverside this weekend?  Needless to say, the pair didn't mince their words.

"Because it's brilliant. Why wouldn't you come be here? What else have you got to do that's better? Come have a party – it's going to be amazing!"

Can't argue with that, can you?

You can grab your tickets from £65 plus booking fee over on Eventbrite.
