MTV has enlisted legendary DJ D-Nice to be the sound selector for a reboot of its classic TV dance series “Club MTV.”
“Club MTV Presents #DanceTogether with D-Nice” is billed as a one-hour music event at 9 p.m. April 25 on the cable channel and simulcast across VH1 and MTV2. The live event benefits Save the Music, a music education non-profit.
“Club MTV,” hosted by Downtown Julie Brown, aired on MTV from 1987 to 1992 and featured celebrity cameos and performances from notable artists of the era.
DJ D-Nice (born Derrick Jones), perhaps best-known for his work as a member of the ’80s hip-hop music group Boogie Down Productions alongside KRS-One, most recently hosted “#ClubQuarantine” on Instagram Live, which drew 100,000 people including former first lady Michelle Obama.
Saturday’s event will feature a curated set of classic jams and today’s hits, dance challenges and on-screen pop-ins, according to the official MTV announcement. Viewers can join in from home by commenting and posting online using #DanceTogether.
