In an unfortunate turn of events, a performer at Leeds music festival was trapped “in a cage” after staff believed him to be a regular punter who had broken into the VIP area.

Evian Christ, best known for his collaboration with Kanye West on Yeezus album track “I’m In It”, was stopped by security and placed in a holding pen.

He then Tweeted out a short video from within, while also stating his Reading slot had been cancelled, yet this has not been confirmed.

The DJ had performed a set on the BBC Radio One Dance stage on the Friday at Leeds, while his Reading slot on the same stage takes place on the Sunday.

#freeEvian spread amoungst fans, while the artist carried on Tweeting: “Really though, actually got put in a cage at a festival headlined by Mumford and Sons because the festival staff didn’t believe I was a DJ and thought I was 'trying to break into the festival' after my set.”

Reading and Leeds organisers Festival Republic have yet to comment.

Folk rockers Mumford and Sons,  Metallica, and The Libertines are headlining the bank holiday weekend bash. Other acts to play include Kendrick Lamar, Alt-J, Royal Blood, Jamie T and Run the Jewels
