KHON KAEN - Local police have issued a formal summons for the man accused of assaulting a DJ over a delayed birthday song request, after he failed to turn up for a scheduled meeting with investigators — even as he moved to resign from his seat on the local Police Audit and Monitoring Committee.

Pol Col Yodsawat Kaewsuebthannit, superintendent of Muang Khon Kaen police station, said on June 17 that investigators had summoned Mr Thanasak Phakchonakorn after he failed to appear as agreed a day prior.

Contacted by phone, Mr Thanasak said he had been under stress since the incident. He told authorities he had seen a doctor and was attending to business in Bangkok, promising to report to investigators as soon as he returned.

Pol Col Yodsawat added Mr Thanasak did not produce any evidence he formally submitted a resignation from his position on the Police Audit and Monitoring Committee (กต.ตร.) despite claiming he had done. The committee also had not notified Khon Kaen police station of any resignation, keeping Mr Thanasak's photo, and his standing position in place. Only the committee's chairman said Mr Thanasak submitted a written resignation expected to reach investigators later in the day.

Pol Col Yodsawat said the public should be confident the case would be handled fairly without regard to Mr Thanasak's committee status.
