With Scottish families on the lookout for things to keep kids entertained and cool during the hot weather, one parent has provided a handy hack to solve the problem. Paddling pools are a classic favourite, but not everyone has the space or funds to enjoy them.
Thankfully, one crafty parent has discovered and shared how to make a DIY water sprinkler, so children can splash about for a fraction of the cost. And parents can join in the fun too.
Furthermore, the sprinklers are easy to construct using tools you may already have around the house. The DIY sprinkler can be made out of a large plastic bottle, as @chatbooks explained in a video shared to TikTok. You’ll also need a drill and tape, plus a hose to use as the water supply, according to Mirror Online.

The instructions are as follows:
- Drill holes into an empty litre bottle (in various spots)
- Attach to hose end using strong tape
- Turn on water and play
The viral video takes parents through the three simple steps, before showing a family enjoying the cooling water. As a later clip shows, the sprinkler can also be used to water your plants and garden more effectively.

And parents loved the video, flooding the comments with praise for the “smart” idea. One comment read: “Nice! It looks so simple too!”
“That’s really smart,” another added. “Great idea and very inexpensive,” wrote a third, to which the creator responded: “The best part!”
