DIY SOS' Nick Knowles accused of breaking BBC rules with Shreddies advert

The presenter of one of BBC's flagship property programmes, DIY SOS, is alleged to be at the centre of a row regarding his appearance in a TV commercial.

Nick Knowles is the anchor of DIY SOS which sees his team of trades people and local volunteers rescue and rebuild buildings and homes in projects nominated by the public that transform people's lives.

He has recently appeared in a TV advert for the cereal Shreddies in which he was referred to as "Nick get it done Knowles". The commercial first aired in February and Nick is seen playing the role of a builder and helping a family that appears to be a reference back to the content of the show that has been popular with viewers since its launch in 1999.

Nick, 58, has been on DIY SOS for 21 years but his appearance in the advert could have landed him in trouble with BBC bosses, as it has been alleged that the advert is in breach of the organisation's rules.

Nick Knowles' representatives and the BBC told the Mirror in a joint statement: "Both the BBC and Nick are keen to resolve this matter and are working together to seek a solution."

Nick and the DIY SOS have delighted Welsh audiences a number of times over the years, with two 'Big Builds' standing out as arguably the most emotional and impressive transformations in Wales.

In 2020 the programme visited the inspirational surf school, Surfability UK, in Swansea based in Caswell Bay. The brainchild of Ben Clifford, this is a world-leading, fully inclusive surf school that helps children with even the most severe disabilities take part in the sport he loves.

That wasn't the first time Nick and the team have brought their skills to Wales, with one of the most memorable being in DIY SOS: The Big Build BBC Children in Need Special 2017.

This visit transformed a derelict site into a spectacular new purpose-built centre to help children in care and at that time was the biggest build they had ever tackled.

The result is The Roots Foundation Wales' new 320 square foot home in Swansea. Find out more about that here.
