DIY SOS: How you can get involved with Nick Knowles and the gang on their latest Swansea project

Fancy being involved in creating a new base for a worthwhile Swansea charity and getting your face on the telly at the same time?

DIY SOS is appealing for tradespeople including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, plasterers and decorators to offer support with its September plans to turn Surfability UK’s current Caswell, Swansea base – a dilapidated out of use bus stop shelter - into a state of the art eco-friendly surf centre.

The team will be putting on a Trades Day on Tuesday, August 18, for people to come forward and express their interest in being a part of the project.

This will be ahead of the build between Wednesday, September 16, and Thursday, September 24, before the final product is revealed on Friday, September 25.

So how can you get involved?

If you are interested in being part of the project, all you have to do is e-mail diysoscaswellbay@bbc.co.uk as soon as possible with your trade, availability and contact details.

The project follows the team's efforts in September, 2017, when they built a new support centre for The Roots Foundation Wales, which supports children in care.

Yesterday, the first pictures of how the property renovation will look were revealed, thanks to artist's impressions from Huw Griffiths Architects, lodged as part of a planning application officially submitted to Swansea Council.

Surfability UK currently supports more than 500 people from across the UK, and gives disabled people the opportunity to take to the waves.

With the help of trade volunteers, the makers of DIY SOS want to turn Surfability’s current space - which is often flooded, with no electricity, running water or ventilation - into a dry, well designed wet suit and surf board storage unit.

Nick Knowles and his team also want to construct a new single-storey accessible facility as well as refurbish the existing storage building.
