'Divvent gan oot if ye divvent have te' - Geordie weather forecast proves a hit online

Hundreds of people have been sharing an amusing Geordie weather forecast online as the region braces itself for Storm Ciara.

The North East is set to be battered by severe gales this weekend and the region will feel the worst of the weather throughout Sunday.

To help warn residents, North Tyneside Council posted a message on its Facebook page in Geordie.

The status, which has been liked and shared by hundreds, read: "The Met Office says that Storm Ciara is ganna be blowin' a hooley reet ower the country on Sunday.

"Divvent gan oot if ye divvent have te, but if ye de then divvent be glaky, gan canny and tek the advice of the bobby dazzlers at the Met Office.

"Forecast says it winnit be that caad. While it might mek ye feel radgie, ye might wanna put a coat on anyways."

The council further posted a "translation for non natives".

It said: "The Met Office says that Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds to all of the country on Sunday.

"Don't go out if you do not have to. If you do go out, then be aware and be careful and take the advice of the lovely people at the Met Office.

"The forecast says that it won’t be too cold (9 to 12 degrees). While it may make you feel angry (not applicable to non-natives) you should wear a coat just in case."

Scores of people commented on the post and praised the council for its sense of humour.

One said: "Brilliant update North Tyneside Council... Meks me smile geet loads."

Another wrote: "Brilliant, this made me laugh."

One woman added: "This is pure gold."

And another message read: "Well done North Tyneside, great to see a bit of humour, thank you."
