Divock Origi swap deal and Liverpool hunt for their own Bruno Fernandes as transfer rumours rated

Liverpool signed two centre-backs on transfer deadline day ahead of the window closing but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill.

Reports of defenders being linked with the Reds, possible deals that may have happened last month and potential replacements are still being touted.

Here is a round-up of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Blood Red: Pep Guardiola looks ahead to Man City's visit to Anfield

Liverpool miss out on Braga centre-back

Liverpool reportedly missed out on Braga centre-back David Carmo as they looked to add defensive reinforcements to steer them through the final six months of the season.

Instead, Liverpool signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, but reporter Fabrizio Romano says they also made an approach for the 21-year-old, which was rejected.

"That night of the deadline day, the last night of transfers, Liverpool were looking for another centre-back apart from Ben Davies," Romano told the Here We Go podcast.

"So before moving onto Kabak during the morning of the deadline day, they were trying for David Carmo from Braga. So, they made an official bid during the night and Braga turned it down, because they wanted €30million (£26m) guaranteed – his release clause.

"Liverpool started negotiations with Ozan Kabak and Schalke but it wasn’t so easy a negotiation. It was complicated. During lunchtime, he was having medical to be ready, but the negotiation between the player went well obviously, but the two clubs had problems with the options and the obligation to buy.

"So, the loan was not so sure, they were negotiating. In this moment to have also a Plan B, Liverpool were in contact again with Braga for Carmo, and they made another bid, it was an important bid, the second one, the official one, but the President of Braga turned it down again.

"While Kabak was having medical, they were trying also with Carmo because they wanted two big options to be ready if some problems was coming up with Schalke.

"Schalke wanted the money guaranteed, and Liverpool said ‘we’re going to pay you a loan fee but we can’t do obligation to buy only option to buy’. During the afternoon they solved the solution with Schalke and they signed Kabak.

"They are so happy with Kabak, but David Carmo was really really close to joining Liverpool. He was a serious option, and I will say keep an eye on this guy."

Pedro Goncalves linked

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Portuguese midfielder Pedro Goncalves, who has been compared to Bruno Fernandes due to his goalscoring prowess.

Portuguese outlet Defensa Central, via Read Liverpool, reports that Real Madrid and Liverpool are battling for the 22-year-old, who has impressed for Sporting Lisbon in Fernandes' stead this season.

In 14 Liga Nos games, Goncalves has an impressive 12 goals and two assists. He is the current top-scorer in the division and has a £53m release clause.

Liverpool could lose Gini Wijnaldum at the end of the season when his contract expires and may be looking to bolster their midfield options, which Goncalves most certainly would aid.

Divock Origi transfer fell through

Liverpool attempted to offload Divock Origi in a complicated transfer, according to reports in the Mirror.

In an attempt to sign a centre-back to cover for their vast injury problems, Origi was offered to Lille in a swap deal for Sven Botman, according to the report.

The deal never materialised and Liverpool signed Davies and Kabak instead.

Origi remains with Liverpool, while Takumi Minamino was allowed to be loaned out to Southampton on deadline day instead.
