Divock Origi makes Liverpool contract declaration as he prepares for new deal talks

Champions League final hero Divock Origi is hoping for "positive" talks when he sits down to discuss a new contract with Liverpool in the coming few weeks.

Origi has become a cult hero with Reds supporters this season despite starting only six games.

He scored dramatic late winners against Everton and Newcastle United in the Premier League, notched twice in the Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona and etched his name in Liverpool history by scoring the second in the final win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Belgium international is entering the final 12 months of his contract with Liverpool considering rewarding the 24-year-old for his growing influence with an extended new deal.

"The next few weeks we'll have to sit down and see what the future holds," said Origi, who is currently with the Belgium squad preparing for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland.

"For now I just want to focus on these last few games (with Belgium) and then see after that.

"I want to speak to the club and my people internally before going public but hopefully the talks between me, the club and my people will be positive."

Origi, speaking to Sky Sports, has already set his sights on another Premier League title tilt for Liverpool next season having missed out by a point from Manchester City this term.

"It's a big goal which we want to make steps towards," he added. "This year's experience and the Champions League win will help us and it would be nice to win it.

"But also let's just enjoy what we have done (winning the Champions League) and then reset some goals ready for next season."
