Curtis Jones hands Liverpool an injury worry on England U21 duty

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was left out of the England U21 side that faced Slovenia on Thursday due to concerns over his fitness.

The 20-year-old had been expected to start for Lee Carsely’s side but Nick Mashitter of the Press Association reported that the youngster was absent with “a knock”.

In a later update, Mashitter tweeted that the England youth coach said Jones “had a tight groin in training on Tuesday” and will be assessed ahead of their next game against Andorra on Monday.

Despite being called up in the last international break, Jones has not featured for the side since March, following suspension and a subsequent cancelled fixture against Romania.

Barcelona must face transfer truth over Divock Origi and Liverpool

After Divock Origi was the subject of transfer speculation surrounding a potential January move to Barcelona, this is the latest sign that demonstrates the Spanish side are no longer the giants they once were.

The Catalan club may have snapped up Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in the past, but their current financial troubles mean the club are now unable to sanction any big-money moves.

With limited striker options and having enjoyed one of his most famous nights in a Liverpool shirt in the 4-0 win over Barcelona in 2019, that Origi is reportedly viewed as a possible target shows that even Barca’s recent frontline of Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar is well in the past.
