Division rivals in New York miss out on DE Frank Clark

File this under “things you hate to see”. The New York Jets flirted heavily with the Seattle Seahawks regarding star defensive end Frank Clark. Instead, Clark is on his way to Kansas City after the Chiefs surrendered a 2019 1st-round pick (29 overall), a 2020 2nd-round pick and swapped 2019 3rd-round picks with Seattle.

The Jets landing Clark would have made them an even more prominent team to watch as they look to capitalize on their rookie quarterback cap situation and push for the playoffs.

But instead, the Jets are left empty handed for the second time this off-season after looking intently at an impact defender. First it was Minnesota linebacker Anthony Barr, who the Jets had agreed to terms with before Barr got cold feet and took less money to sign in Minnesota.

And now, Clark. Ultimately, the asking price for Clark was too rich for the Jets — the Seahawks were looking for the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 Draft.

It’s bittersweet for Miami — there is always a level of amusement at seeing a rival team miss out on a big deal. But ultimately this is the best thing for the Jets. Clark’s new contract is a monster deal and would have put notable stress and diminished margin for error in New York.
