Divis Tower incident leads to arrest on suspicion of assault

Police have arrested a man after receiving a “report of an ongoing assault” in West Belfast.

Locals say there was a significant police presence at the Divis Tower in the city on Wednesday night as officers moved in. Shortly after they arrived a man was seen being taken from the building, locals say.

Asked about the incident a PSNI spokesman said: “Police received a report of an ongoing assault in the Divis Tower area just after 9pm on Wednesday, 22nd February.

“On arrival, officers located a woman in her 20s with facial injuries. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault and conveyed to Musgrave station. He remains in custody at this time.

“Police appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or captured footage, to call 101, quoting reference number 1940 of 22/02/23.”

The police added that a report can be submitted online using their non-emergency reporting form at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. They added that people can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
