A man has been left with cuts and a suspected fractured arm after being attacked with a wheel brace and machete.

The incident happened in the Divis area of West Belfast on Sunday night, according to a police statement issued on Monday morning.

The PSNI says that it “was reported that a 28 year old man had been attacked by two men in the area of Divis Street around 8.30pm”.

They added: “The man sustained a number of injuries after he was struck by a wheel brace and a machete.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected fracture to his arms and lacerations to his arm and head. The men made off in a black coloured BMW car that was driven by a female.”

Police say that a 22-year-old male and a 26-year-old female “have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remain in custody at this time”.

Detective Inspector Dane is appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has information that could assist with the investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101, quoting reference 1800 10/05/20.

The police added that anyone with information can pass it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
