Divinity in the park

The worship of deities has long been a spiritual cure for many Thais who want to ease their anxieties.

Joggers in Bangkok's Lumpini Park are often seen at a small shrine dedicated to a deity called Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, under a large banyan tree, where they pay their respects and offer food.

The shrine, which gives the park an added sense of peacefulness, attracts both the young and old alike.

It is a highly regarded place and just as popular as the many Buddhist temples in the capital for those looking for reassurance and an easing of their worries, at least spiritually.
