Diversity’s Black Lives Matter-inspired dance routine from the last series of Britain’s Got Talent has been nominated for Bafta’s must-see moment award.
The routine won praise from viewers and judges, but also prompted more than 24,000 complaints to broadcast regulator Ofcom.
BGT broadcaster ITV stood by the routine, however, and Ofcom ruled that the programme had not breached any guidelines.
The dance routine by the former reality contest winners featured a moment in which Ashley Banjo was knelt on by a dancer dressed as a police officer, in reference to the murder of George Floyd.
Five other programmes were also nominated for the Virgin Media Must-See Moment of 2020 award. Nominated for Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton is the moment in which Lady Whistledown was finally unmasked.
The killing of Gray Atkins in EastEnders also made the shortlist, as did the reactions to Boris Johnson’s Covid-19 news conference on Gogglebox.
Nigella Lawson’s humorous mispronunciation of the word “microwave” on Cook, Eat, Repeat, and the appearance of Luke Skywalker at the end of The Mandalorian’s second season round out the list of nominees.

Voting is open until 5pm BST on 24 May. It is the only award at the Bafta TV Awards which is voted for by the general public.
The Bafta TV Award ceremony will take place on 6 June, and will be hosted by comedian Richard Ayoade.
