Diversity re-enact George Floyd death for powerful BGT performance that has viewers in tears

Diversity re-enacted the shocking death of George Floyd for a powerful performance that left hosts Ant and Dec almost lost for words and viewers at home in tears.

George, 46, died on May 25 while he was being arrested by officers from the Minneapolis Police Department, sparking anger across America and much further afield.

His death prompted Black Lives Matter protests across the world and, giving an emotional routine inspired by everything 2020 has thrown at us, dance act Diversity, who won BGT in 2009, referenced it with Ashley re-enacting the heartbreaking image that is now ingrained in the minds of many as George lay helpless on the floor, before the whole group, also including Dancing on Ice finalist Perri Kiely, took the knee on stage.

The performance also addressed the coronavirus pandemic but it was the George Floyd moment that sparked the biggest reaction at home, with viewers heralding Diversity for making a stand.

One tweeted: "WOW @Diversity _Tweet re-enacting #GeorgeFloyd death through dance #BlackLivesMatter on #BGT so powerful," and another posted: "Absolutely stunning performance from

@Diversity_Tweet yet again. I am in awe of this representation of the past 6 months. You are amazing humans, thank you @AshleyBanjo your choreography had me in tears, the whole thing was just beautiful

A third reacted: "Honestly diversity are incredible and there will never be a dance crew like them again. No words for the George floyd tribute," and after the routine finished, BGT hosts Ant and Dec exclaimed: "Wow, wow...absolutely brilliant!"

Judges Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon gave a standing ovation, with Alesha shouting "YES!"
