Divergent by Veronica Roth - review

In Divergent, society is divided into five factions. Abnegation (the selfless), Candor (the honest), Erudite (the knowledgeable), Dauntless (the brave) and Amity (the kind). Each year, every sixteen-year-old has to decide which faction to spend the rest of their lives in.

Beatrice Prior is finding this difficult. What should she decide? Should she choose to stay with her family in Abnegation? Or should she decide to be who she really is? Her decision surprises even herself.

Beatrice's secret means she must decide who her real friends are; a secret she cannot talk about but doesn't understand herself. If she wants answers, who can she ask? This secret could save all of her friends and family – but it might kill her.

I absolutely loved Divergent. Lots of people have compared it to The Hunger Games or Twilight, and in my opinion it was similar to The Hunger Games throughout the entire book, but with more romance.

For the first part of the book I found it hard to remember what all the factions stood for, but by the end I had got it. I don't think I can really criticise it – it was so like The Hunger Games that you had to love it. They are different at the same time as being alike, and that's why I enjoyed it so much. Divergent is basically a really good book that reminds you of a whole long list of other good books, which makes it even better!

I would really suggest reading this because it's a great book and I will definitely be reading the rest of the trilogy!

I would give it 5 stars and will tell all of my friends to read it. The film is coming out sometime this year and I can't wait to see it and watch the story come to life!
