Disturbing scenes as man struck in head by hatchet after clash on Dublin street

A man has reportedly been seriously injured in a vicious hatchet attack after a clash between two groups in Dublin city this afternoon.

Gardai were called to the scene of the melee around 2pm this afternoon at the intersection of Creighton Street and Hanover Street in Dublin 2.

A source told Dublin Live that one lad received a hatchet shot to the head while windows were also smashed in the area.

Video footage obtained by Dublin Live shows a sizable gang surrounding one man on the ground as others scarper away.

Shouts of "hit him with the axe" can be heard as up to five young lads can be seen around two others struggling on the ground.

A bike is thrown by one man at the group as they splinter off into other running battles amid shouts of "kill him".

At the end of the video one of the men on the ground is struck in the head and immediately scrambles away on the ground, holding his head and wailing in pain.

Gardai told Dublin Live that they were at the scene "of an incident that occurred in the Windmill Lane/Creighton Street area of Dublin 2 today at approximately 2pm".

They continued: "It is reported that an altercation occurred between a group of youths.

"Investigations are ongoing."
