District chief killed in road accident

UTTARADIT: The head of Thong Saen Khan district of this lower northern province was killed after a pick-up he was driving rammed into a roadside tree on Saturday afternoon.

Pol Capt Manus Surachit, a Wang Kaphi police duty officer, said the accident took place at about 6.40pm when the Toyota Vigo pick-up belonging to the Provincial Administration Department skidded off Highway 11 (Uttaradit-Phitsanulok) and hit a tree in tambon Ban Kruat in Muang district.

Jarin Udomlert, the Thong Saen Khan district chief, was found dead at the wheel.

An investigation revealed that Jarin was returning home in Muang district from work at the time.

Police were trying to ascertain the cause of the accident.
