District attorney reopens criminal investigation into Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill, fiancée

The criminal investigation into Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill and his fiancée over allegations of child abuse has been reopened, as confirmed by coach Andy Reid today. This comes less than a day after the release of new audio relevant to the investigation, in which Hill is accused of abuse and threatens his fiancée, Crystal Espinal.

In a press conference, Reid said the Chiefs would be sticking with their initial statement made last night.

“There are a lot of folks here that I know were not here last night when Brett (Veach) made his statement. We’re sensitive to that,” Reid said. “We understand you have a lot of questions. I think you understand also that the case has been reopened. We’ll stick with the statement that we made last night about Tyreek.”

The decision to reopen the case comes after Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe held a press conference this week announcing that he would decline to file charges over a lack of evidence. During that press conference, Howe noted that there was a five-year statute of limitations in Kansas and that the case could be reopened in light of new evidence.

Now, with the new audio released to the public, it appears that Howe has the evidence he needs to continue his investigation.
