Distressed 11-year-old cries in 999 call after mum stabs dad in front of her

A distressed 11-year-old is heard crying in a 999 call as she tries to cover up the reason she tried to phone the police numerous times earlier.

Later on after someone else from the household phones the emergency operator, it emerges that the girl's mum stabbed his dad in front of him.

The police are reviewing an abandoned 999 call, which features shouting in the background, when they ring the number back.

In tonight's Police: Hour of Duty, a young tearful girl is heard answering the call as he tells them that she didn't mean to phone them.

The 999 operator asked the young girl about what was going on (5)

However the operator is keen to keep her on the line as she senses something is wrong.

She probes the girl: "Is everything alright there?"

"Yes, it's ok," she replies.

But the operator continues: "You sound upset, what's happened?"

"It doesn't matter," the girl responds.

The young girl insisted that everything was ok (5)

She replies: "It does, I just want to make sure you're alright. What's happened?"

The 11-year-old replies: "I don't really know what, I've got to go and I'm sorry for calling you."

The operator asks whether there is someone there and he replies that there is but insists that they're alright.

After telling her to take a deep breath, she asks the girl again what's happened she claims it was just her friends being horrible.

But she asks: "Who is it who's shouting in the background?"

The girl responds: "Oh, it was just that they're talking but it sounds really loud."

The husband rang 999 separately and told operators he had been stabbed (5)

She points out that they did have a call from her earlier and that they could hear shouting in the background of the other call too.

The girl insists that they are ok now and the operator asks to talk to her mum.

Meanwhile another call comes in as a man is heard saying: "Can I have the police please? Yeah, I've been stabbed by the wife."

The other operator finally gets through to speak to the mum, who says: "We were just having a bit of an argument."

Yet the operator says that they would have the police sent round to make sure they were all ok.

After getting off the phone, the operator remarks: "Knew it, domestic."

A colleague later tells her: "I've just had a call from the husband and on playback it said, I could hear him; 'Please, please, I've been stabbed by my wife.' And I could hear the same female crying in the background."
