There's a mixture of distress, anger and bewilderment among the sporadic groups of visitors to the scene of the fatal stabbing outside the Weston Scout Hall early on Sunday morning.
Most are teenagers but there are some adults, too, their annoyance directed at the occasional media which turn up to the scene.
The barricades and tape which protected the crime scene are gone but not so the deep feelings which this incident has generated in the small suburban Weston Creek community.
About a dozen individual bunches of flowers rest against the treated pine post fence just outside the front driveway of the scout hall.
Just a few metres away is what appears to be a bloodstain on the concrete.
There were several crime scenes, some metres distant from each other, from the early hours of that morning when an 18-year-old victim was fatally stabbed multiple times by an as-yet-unidentifed assailant. A 16-year-old youth was also stabbed but police say he is recovering well.
A team of detectives will begin door-knocking the local neighbourhood in the next few days. Police are also appealing for people living in nearby streets with CCTV vision which may help track the movements of the young people to and from the Dillon Close carpark.
As many as a dozen young people, most in their teens, were in the carpark. Some have gone to ground, fearful for their safety. What appears to have been a gathering after the security lights have gone at the skatepark has gone terribly wrong.
A white Toyota belonging to the victim was one of several vehicles in the carpark at the time and police are using CCTV vision to link those cars to their owners.
"I recognise this death is extremely distressing to our members of our community and there may be families who are concerned about their daughter's or their son's involvement in this particular incident," Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said.
"If you think someone you know has been involved in this incident, I would encourage you to talk to them them and get them to come forward and talk to us."
