Distraught mum begs for daughter, 14, to return home in emotional appeal

A mum has begged for her 14-year-old daughter to come home after last seeing her a day ago.

Claire Keight last saw her daughter Caitlin Wright on Sunday morning (December 29).

The couple, who live in Castle Gresley, Derbyshire, went to Burton-on-Trent on a shopping trip alongside her 13-year-old brother Tyler and Mrs Keight's husband, James, to spend some Christmas money.

They were also joined by one of Caitlin's school friends, reports DerbyshireLive.

At around 9.30am, Caitlin and her friend separated from the group to go round clothes shops, including Primark, and agreed to meet up again with the family at 2pm.

By noon, Mrs Keight said the family were finished shopping and tried to call Pingle Academy pupil Caitlin, but failed to get through.

Mrs Keight, 37, checked a mobile tracking app linked with her daughter's phone, but the phone had also been switched off.

The family spent hours looking round Burton and nearby parks, before returning home at 3pm to see if she had gone there.

They eventually found a contact for Caitlin's friend, who said the youngster told her she was going to catch a train to Birmingham.

Speaking through tears, Mrs Keight said: "I couldn't believe she went and got on a train all by herself, she's such a nervous kid.

"She's done nothing like this before.

"She's a good girl, she's never been in trouble and has never gone missing before.

"She's doing well at school, but is a quiet and nervous girl, and that's why we're worried."

Mrs Keight said the only link her daughter may have to Birmingham would be a "young lad" who she had mentioned to her friends.

She said: "Her friends said she'd mentioned meeting someone in Birmingham before, a young lad, but I'm not sure.

"We just want her to let us know she's safe, it's just not like her at all.

"We don't know anything, nothing since yesterday, we just don't know."

What police have said

An appeal was issued by Derbyshire Police late on Sunday, December 29.

Another fresh appeal was issued earlier today with new pictures of the young teen.

This read that the teenager had not been seen since around 11.30am that day, near to Primark, in Coopers Square shopping centre.
