'Distraught' man launches desperate bid to find his teddy bear of 30 years

The wife of a "distraught" husband has launched a campaign to find a lost teddy bear which had been by his side for three decades.

Bellamy Roth, 40, lost 'Puffy the bear', which a relative gave to him as a child, on a business trip to Dublin. The pharmaceutical professional believes he left the teddy behind in the city centre hotel he was staying in.

The English couple have been in touch with the hotel in the O'Connell Street area but they did not find the bear in the room. They now believe the bear got caught up in the bed sheets and was taken out of the room with the laundry.

Wife Zoe Powell, 38, told Dublin Live: "It is a very old bear basically. My husband has had it for 30 years and unfortunately while on a business trip he did that thing - you know with lack of sleep and being tired - where he left it in the hotel.

"He got it [the teddy bear] when he was a child 30 years ago as a present from a family member he was visiting. Puffy means a hell of a lot. He has travelled everywhere with him. It probably sounds a bit strange for an adult man.

"He does [sleep with the bear every night], he is a bit like Aloysius from Brideshead Revisited."

Despite being 30 years old, 'Puffy' has only had to be repaired once when it was "falling apart". Zoe said it would mean "a hell of a lot if the bear was returned" to them.

"We both can't stop thinking about it," she added. Zoe said the "hotel were lovely but were unable to help us because they send the linen off site to be laundered. We're just working on the assumption that it got caught up in the bed sheets.

"But we can't seem to get to the bottom of who the company they use is. We are hoping that is where the bear will be."
