Distraught dog pines for missing moggy after Dumbarton disappearance

Dogs and cats notoriously don’t get on but pooch Bella has been heartbroken since her feline friend Marlie disappeared this week.

The dog has been left distraught, pining for six-month-old Marlie.

The kitten vanished after playing in its owner Elizabeth Anderson’s Dumbarton garden and not a trace has been seen since.

Kitten Marlie went missing on Monday, August 23 (Lennox Herald)

Elizabeth, who stays in Castlehill, told the Lennox Herald: “I was coming into the house and I thought my husband was bringing her in but he hadn’t.

“I went back downstairs and I was calling her and she didn’t come in.

“I have been searching all the time.

“I am absolutely heartbroken and my wee dog is pining constantly.”

Marlie would spend some time in Elizabeth’s garden and that of the next door neighbour but would stray no further until Monday.

Now her disappearance has left a huge gap in the entire family.

Elizabeth added: “Everywhere Marlie went, Bella has been sniffing about.

“They are best of friends. Where you would see one, you would see the other.”

Elizabeth has contacted the Scottish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) but they say there have been no reports of cats being handed into them and no news that she has been involved in an accident.

There was a reported sighting in Brucehill but it turned out not to be Marlie. Anyone who has seen the kitten is asked to contact Elizabeth immediately on 07795472701.
