'Distancing markers' are being drawn on Bristol pavements

Shopkeepers and members of the public have begun spraying or painting markers on pavements around Bristol to indicate how far two metres is - so people remember to maintain 'distancing'.

Lines painted indicating how far two metres is, or markers to indicate how far people should stand apart when they queue or walk along the street to lower the risk of passing on coronavirus, are becoming an increasingly common sight on the streets of Bristol.

On Gloucester Road, markers were painted on the pavement to act in a similar way to the 'keep your distance' chevrons for drivers on motorways.

And shopkeepers in North Street in Bedminster who are keeping their businesses open, but coming to take orders at the door, have begun to spray lines on the pavement indicating where people should be standing when they approach the shop.

Major supermarkets have similar restrictions ins place. Sainsbury's are among the retailers limiting the number of people who can be a store at any one time, and customers are asked to queue two metres apart. Tesco have added markings to their floors so customers know how far to stand apart. Morrisons have introduced similar measures as well as perspex screens to separate staff and customers at the tills.
