'Disruptive' passenger causes Jet2 flight to divert while mid-air

A plane had to make an emergency diversion at Manchester Airport after a passenger became disruptive during a flight.

A 38-year-old man was removed after police boarded the Jet2 flight to Bodrum, Turkey.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage, reported the Manchester Evening News.

Trouble broke out shortly after the plane departed from Glasgow Airport at 3.26pm on Monday, September 21.

Just half-an-hour into the flight, as it headed over the North Sea, the captain decided to turn around and make an unscheduled stop at Manchester Airport, touching down shortly after 4pm.

Police officers based at the airport board the aircraft and removed the passenger. He was arrested and now faces a possible criminal charge and a huge bill from the airline.

The holiday jet was able to continue its journey and it landed in Bodrum that evening with no further disruption.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "Our Glasgow to Bodrum flight diverted to Manchester Airport on 21st September because of the aggressive behaviour of a disruptive passenger. We would like to thank our highly-trained crew, as well as the Greater Manchester Police who offloaded the passenger, for their handling of this situation.

"As a family-friendly airline, we will not tolerate this type of behaviour. Customers travelling for their well-deserved holidays, as well as hard-working colleagues doing their jobs, should not be subjected to this behaviour under any circumstances.

"We will be taking action to ensure that the individual responsible is held accountable for their actions, whilst fully supporting the authorities with their investigations.”

The airline decline to provide further details.
