Disruption to rail services in Glasgow after lorry hits bridge in North Lanarkshire

Rail services across Glasgow and the wider area have been disrupted this morning after a lorry struck a railway bridge in North Lanarkshire.

The incident occurred around 7:55am this morning on Main Street in Caldercruix.

Police attended the scene, with no injuries reported to the driver of the vehicle.

In the meantime, ScotRail are advising that the bridge will need to be examined by their staff to check if it is safe.

The said: "A vehicle has struck a bridge at Caldercruix. The bridge will need to be examined by our staff. Our response team are en-route to examine this and will be on-site shortly. Until then trains will have to run at a reduced speed".

While a spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police were alerted to an incident at 7:55am this morning after a lorry struck a railway bridge on Main Street, Caldercruix.

"No-one was injured in the incident".

UPDATE - Trains have examined both lines and normal working is resumed.
