Disruption to medical services as Omicron wave hits Lanarkshire doctors' surgery

Patients of a Lanarkshire doctors surgery are facing disruption to appointments as an Omicron wave hits the practice.

Staff shortages at Calderlea Surgery caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are taking their toll on clinical and administrative services with the Omicron variant spreading fast.

Absence rates have spiked due to the rapid spread of Omicron which has led to a high number of cases during the Christmas and New Year period, with workers required to self-isolate if they are confirmed to have been infected.

Calderlea appealed for understanding as they try to navigate their way through this stage of the pandemic and urged patients to make use of NHS 24 and their local pharmacy.

A spokesman for Calderlea Surgery said: “We are currently experiencing a disruption to our clinical and administrative services due to staff shortages in relation to the Omicron variant.

"We are asking for our patients’ patience and understanding as we try to provide as a good a service as possible during this time.

“Patients are reminded that the NHS Inform website provides advice on self-care, NHS 24 can provide urgent health advice out-of-hours and your local pharmacy is the first port of call for minor ailments.

"This will help free up appointments for those who need them.”
