Disruption to late-night Merseyrail Wirral line services after trespass incident

Late-night Merseyrail Wirral line services were disrupted both ways between Chester and Liverpool following a trespass incident between Capenhurst and Bache station.

Trespassers were reported on the tracks at around 10.30pm on Tuesday night (August 31). Trains from Chester to Liverpool were temporarily suspended but contingency plans to use rail replacement buses were put in place.

The later-running 11.15pm service from Liverpool Central to Chester terminated at Birkenhead Central.

Merseyrail and National Rail have both reported that the incident has been cleared.

National Rail tweeted at 12.38am: "Trains are now running normally following a trespass incident between Chester and Hooton."

The incident is being investigated.
