Person dies after being hit by train near Beeston

A person has died after being hit by a train near a Nottinghamshire train station, it has been confirmed.

The incident happened near Attenborough train station and while emergency services attended, the route between Beeston and Long Eaton was affected.

The incident was reported around on Wednesday morning, April 22 and Network Rail were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called at 7.22am to Attenborough station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway told Derbyshire Live: “Sadly, we can confirm a person was struck by a train near Attenborough station shortly after 07:15 this morning.

“We are assisting the emergency services as needed. Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with everyone involved."

Trains operated were affected with no service between Beeston and Long Eaton in both directions and other routes were being diverted.

East Midlands Railway has since tweeted: "The line has now reopened and train services are able to run between Beeston and Long Eaton.

"We are working to run services to our advertised timetable.
